You can turn any of your projects into a template, allowing others to check out and use your designs. This feature is helpful for users looking to share their work within the Readymag community or sell templates on third-party platforms like Lemonsqueezy, Gumroad and Shopify.
To start sharing a project as a template, open its Settings panel, click “Convert to template‘ to access the template's settings section, and activate the ‘Convert to template’ toggle:
Projects with this option enabled will be categorized as templates rather than standard published projects. However, the number of published templates is also limited. Check the limits section of this article for details.
Any visits to your template will count towards your plan’s views quota. For more information, read our dedicated article about Project Views.
From the templates settings section, you can:
- Copy a template link to let others preview a published version of it.
- Use the access link to grant direct access to a copy of the template to anyone who clicks it.
- Track how many times your template has been viewed and copied.
Remember that you’ll need to publish the project to make your template accessible to the public. If you edit your project and want the template to reflect these changes, you’ll also need to republish the project.
How can others access my template
You can share your template directly using the template or access link—visitors will be able to preview and copy your template.
The copy is independent of the original and exists separately in the visitor’s account.
Visitors who don’t have a Readymag account or aren’t signed in will be prompted to create one or log in. Additionally, if a visitor registers in Readymag and becomes a paying user after copying your template, you’ll receive a reward credited to your Readymag account. You don’t have to add a referral link—this happens automatically. The rewards you get are the same as those offered in our referral program, but the person buying a plan won’t get a discount.
Additionally, you can submit your template to our Templates library so other users browsing templates within the platform can discover it.
You can share templates for free or sell them at your chosen price. Readymag doesn’t handle payments directly, but you can add a purchase link from a third-party service like Lemon Squeezy, Gumroad, or Shopify directly to the template. For a detailed walkthrough, check the How to sell your template article.
Template limits by plan
The number of templates you can publish depends on your subscription:
- Free plan: 1 published template.
- Paid plans: Up to 20 published templates.
There’s no limit to how many templates you can submit to the Readymag Template library.
Keep in mind that published templates don’t count toward your subscription’s limit for published websites. For example, on the Freelancer plan, you can have 5 published regular projects and 20 published templates at the same time.
Managing your templates
You can quickly see which projects have been enabled as templates from the main Projects page. Just click ‘All projects’ at the top of the page and select ‘Templates’.
Removing Template status
To remove template status entirely, turn off the “Convert to template” toggle in settings and republish the project.
If you remove the template status, your project will no longer be accessible as a template but can continue functioning as a regular website if needed. Consider the following:
- If you haven’t reached your subscription’s limit for published projects, you can keep the project published and operating as a standard website.
- If you’ve reached your published project quota, you’ll need to unpublish the project. In this case, the project won’t be accessible either as a template or a regular website.
What happens if the original template is deleted?
Templates are accessible at their links and can be copied as long as the original template remains in the creator’s account. Copies that users created from templates are fully standalone, meaning they’ll continue to work even if the creator’s original template is deleted.
