An SSL certificate helps protect your project and your visitors’ personal information. It encrypts data sent between a visitor’s browser and your website, helping to keep it private and secure. An SSL certificate can also make your website look more trustworthy and support its visibility in search results.
You can tell that SSL is working when you see https:// at the start of your project’s URL. HTTPS is the secure version of HTTP, the protocol used to send data between browsers and websites. The S stands for “Secure” and means the connection is encrypted.
SSL certificates are issued and updated automatically for custom domains on Readymag. All you need to do is connect your domain—we’ll take care of the rest.
SSL certificates can’t secure domains with an underscore (e.g., my_portfolio.ru).
SSL certificates for Readymag custom domains are issued by ZeroSSL. In the certificate, the issuing authority appears as “ZeroSSL ECC Domain Secure Site CA” and the Organization as “ZeroSSL.”
FAQs
Can I connect a custom SSL certificate?
No, it’s not possible to upload custom SSL certificates right now.
How do I enable SSL for my project?
An SSL certificate is issued automatically when you map your domain to Readymag.
To ensure the process goes smoothly, check your DNS settings first. If there aren’t any CAA records, no further action is required on your end.
If you see any CAA records, delete them completely, or add two records for ZeroSSL and Let’s Encrypt:
| Host: | @ |
| Type: | CAA |
| Flags: | 0 |
| Tag: | issue |
| Point to (Value): | letsencrypt.org |
| Host: | @ |
| Type: | CAA |
| Flags: | 0 |
| Tag: | issue |
| Point to (Value): | sectigo.com |
SSL won’t connect. What should I do?
This can happen occasionally — most often when you're remapping a domain. Work through these checks:
- Add CAA records. Open your DNS settings and add the CAA records for ZeroSSL and Let's Encrypt (see How do I enable SSL above).
- Disable IPv6. Check for AAAA records in your DNS settings — these indicate IPv6 is enabled. Delete any you find.
- Check embedded resources. Make sure every link inside custom code, scripts, videos, and other embedded resources uses https://. A single insecure link can block SSL.
How many SSL certificates does a custom domain have?
A custom domain has one SSL certificate per address it serves, not one certificate for the whole project. The bare domain (such as example.com) has its own certificate, and the www version of the domain configured using a dedicated CNAME (such as www.example.com), has a separate one, so a project that’s reachable at both addresses has two certificates.
